…one

It’s dark now.  No stars, and no wind.  Everything is so still.  It felt good to just sit and listen to the sounds of the campground.  A baby had been crying earlier and now was quite.  The smells of the campground are so sharp at night.  The fire-pits that haven’t yet gone out, and the popping noise every few minutes from the little bits of wood left burning before everyone else turned in for the night. The moss, trees, decaying logs, and even the dirt all have a smell of their own and when mixed with the smoke smell, Cassie is starting to feel homesick for Oregon.

Three weeks ago Cassie would never have guessed that she would be traveling with this strange group.  Tim and Maria have been friends forever, and Cassie hung out with them as often as possible.  They met at work and often went to parties, and camping trips together on the Oregon coast.  But, Stephanie, Jim and his twin Jeff, she had only met when they were at the coast last month.  They knew of this great place to camp near Mt. Rainier and everyone decided it would be a adventure to all pile in to the VW van that Jeff bought just before the trip.
